Performer: Malaysian Team - Group
File size: 8.4Meg
Event: Japan 2003
Comments:Malaysia was one of the first country that started a men's rhythmic gymnastics program outside Japan. This is reflected by having a full team - both individuals and group and the maturity of their routines and performance.

Performer: Kiyoshi Sugimoto & Takeshi Kigaku
File size: 6.1Meg
Event: LA Lights Display
Comments:Duets are not part of the competitive program but a great way to develop groups. In Canada and in other developing countries, it is perfectly fine to have a domestic development program that includes duets. As you can see in recent international performances, Japan has been exploring other combinations and possibilities like the duets, mixed pair and groups with apparatus. Will rhythmic ever get as big as ice skating one day? I guess the answer is right in our own hands.

Performer: Kiyoshi Sugimoto

Event: 2003 All Japan Championship
Comments:A really nice stick routine by one of the top gymnasts within Japan. Big throws and catches, the tumbling, the extensive floor coverage, the non-stop flowing of the stick all made this routine so impressive.

Performer: Kazuki Mamorita - 4 in one
File size: 4.3Meg
Event: 2003 Delta Invitational
Comments:This classic demo routine, created by Kazuki while in Canada, may not be foreign to the BC audience. It is grabs your attention and has lots of variety within the minute and a half. Some of you may have seen this performance on regular rhythmic carpet. Do you know which is the most challenge maneuver while he is on regular rhythmic gymnastics carpet?

Performer: Yamada Kotaro - Rope
File size: 2.6Meg
Event: 1999 San Francisco Invitational
Comments: 1999 San Francisco is the first time I met Alex Kochann in person. It was also the first time both of us saw the Japanese men's RG in action and we were completely dazzled by their performances. In all honesty, the video clip here does not do it justice. You have to be at the floor level, listening to the full music and see the height of the tumblings to fully appreciate. Rope has to be my favorite apparatus in men's rhythmic gymnastics. Enjoy!

Performer: Shohei Itsigawa - Double Rings
File size: 4.0Meg
Event: 2003 BC Provincials Gala
Comments:Shohei was on a short visit to Vancouver. We manage to grab him to show us a couple of his routines. The use of two small rings gave a whole new twist to the routines. This is one of the few rare videos of the double rings on the net. Usually the routines are performed on spring floor, therefore, some of the tumbling combinations was simplified to reduce the risks to the performer.

Performer: Kokushikan University team - 6 person Group Free
File size: 5.8Meg
Event: 2002 Pacific Alliance Performance
Comments: Precision, synchronization, interesting formation are some of the words that come to mind in describing men's RG group. As a Russian coach once said to me, "These men has more rhythm and synchronization than a lot of the new routines (under the new code)". In the computer room at the Pacific Alliance, I have heard remarks like "...did you see those men? They are incredible.". I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
